"I work in a highly communicative but silent medium, I am a painter. I spend hours alone and silent in front of my canvas applying colors, creating form, traveling unspeakable distances while standing in the same spot. The origin of my work often begins as a dream then may transcend to something more of a life lesson, while I am not trying to manipulate it’s course or outcome. I am working from a very deep-personal landscape. When an image or dream haunts me long enough, I commit it to paint. These images may be a summation, a resolution of one or more particular issue, or sometimes, it can present more of life’s lessons waiting to be experienced. The time spent fully creating these images imparts what I need to learn or heal from. Often, I think about my paintings out there in the world, they have a life of their own separate from mine. They are like my children, I give birth to them, then let them go to fulfill what destiny they may bring. Some are teaching and holding space for collectors I have never met. They are independent of me but sometimes these images I create are solely for me…created subconsciously for me…a message to hold onto so that the lesson at hand can stay close and keep me on track and focused. |
