The Art Work of Cyndi Hidalgo-Knies

Cyndi Hidalgo-Knies has been creating her own visual narrative. A lifelong resident of Ventura County, she is a nationally recognized Chicana Artist who has intentionally set herself apart from the Chicana mainstream. Her work features paintings & drawings completed during the past 18 years as Hidalgo-Knies explores historic & contemporary aspects of her Latino heritage & culture.

Similar to her experiences as a bicultural woman, the lens by which Cyndi Hidalgo-Knies creates is complex and ever evolving. Each of her works is composed of an amalgamation of media that represent Hidalgo-Knies' experiences with negotiating her identity as an American-born Mexicana. She is best known for her paintings and murals that are rich with cultural symbolism and personal allegory. Many of these works incorporate oils, acrylics, pastels and gold leafing onto canvas, wood or concrete.
